Winding adapter is stuck, preventing the cranking handle from turning

Bevel pinion is broken and is locking the drive gear rotation

Replace the bevel pinion and check the drive gear for damage

Rotation od winding adapter rotation is not smooth
|
The meshing between the bevel pinion and drive gear may be too tight
|
Add/Remove shims between the rear housing bearing and the drive gear to reduce tightness
|
Winding adapter is rotating, but the spring core does not compress and the pinion and core pack are not rotating
|
The bevel pinion or the input shaft may be broken
|
Replace the bevel pinion or input shaft
|
When winding the adapter, the drive pinion rotates but the spring does not compress and/or the drive pinion does not move forward to engagement
|
The circlip may have become loose or the drive ratchet may be broken
|
Replace the ratchet or circlip as required
|
The pinion may be stuck on the drive shaft
|
Repair or replace the drive shaft
|
Starter discharges prematurely before pack is fully compressed
|
The lock height may be incorrect
|
Adjust lock to correct height, using lock height gauge

The lock and/or ratchet are worn
